Who runs this
My name is Steven Caldwell, and I am the Lead Reviewer here. I do the testing myself: real accounts, paid tiers, and a fixed scoring rubric applied to every app, so I can turn a noisy market into a clear ranking you can trust. I built this site because most "best AI companion" lists read like they were assembled from marketing pages, not from real accounts. The goal is simple: one consistent rubric applied to every app, so a rank actually means something.
The scoring rubric
Every app runs through a real account and, where it matters, a paid subscription we buy ourselves. We do not accept free premium access in exchange for coverage, because that quietly bends what you are willing to say. Four metrics decide the score, each rated out of 10:
- Conversation. Does it hold a thread, stay in character, and handle both casual and longer emotional exchanges without collapsing into filler?
- Memory. We plant specific details early and check days later whether they resurface naturally, which is where most apps still fall down.
- Value. Not the sticker price, the real cost once you use the features. Coin and token systems get drained on purpose to see how fast the meter runs.
- Privacy. What the app stores, for how long, whether billing is discreet, and what the policy actually permits.
The overall score is a weighted read of all four, not a single standout feature. When an app ships an update that moves the numbers, we retest and stamp the piece with a fresh "updated" date. A rank is not permanent, it is a snapshot of the current field.
How the site stays independent
Some outbound links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you sign up. That never changes a score or a position. We have ranked free apps above paid ones, and we have handed low scores to apps whose affiliate programs we belong to. If that ever stops being true, the site has failed at its one job.
Corrections
If something here is out of date or wrong, email s.caldwell2856@tutamail.com and we will fix it. Accuracy beats being first.
Some apps covered here allow adult (18+) content. Where that is relevant we say so plainly, but this site is not itself adult content. Reviews focus on quality, safety, and value, written for adults deciding whether a paid subscription is worth it.
